PENJING
My interest in the art of plants in a container was reborn in 2006 when I joined the Minnesota Bonsai Society.
There I acquired my first bonsai, a golden gate ficus which I won for one dollar in a raffle.  This bonsai evolved into my first 'Tree and Land'
penjing.  Through activities within MBS my knowledge and skill of the art has steadily improved so that I'm now eager to show my work.

Often I'm asked how long I've been active in bonsai, and in a lot of
words my answer always describes a 'bonsai tree of learning' and
where I am on that tree.  So I hand-sketched this imagined tree.
Where am I on the tree?  Answer at bottom of picture frame.
Kifu northern white cedar literati.  Tree was discovered
growing as a twin trunk seedling in my back yard about
20 years ago.  Trained in literati style 2 years ago.
Sara Rayner pot.

Tree is 28 cm (11 in.) tall.  Trunk diameter 2.5 cm (1 in.).
Est'd age of tree 24 years 2012.
